At the Toni & Trish House, volunteers are the heart of everything we do. Your time, presence, and compassion make it possible for us to provide free end-of-life care to families throughout Mid-Michigan. Whether you have a few hours a week or can commit to regular shifts, there's a meaningful place for you here. No experience necessary, just a caring heart and a willingness to serve during life's most sacred moments.

We welcome volunteers in many capacities, each one essential to creating a peaceful, homelike environment for our guests and their families.

    Companionship, presence, and listening

    Sometimes the greatest gift you can offer is simply being there. Volunteers provide comforting companionship to guests: sitting quietly, holding a hand, listening to stories, or sharing a peaceful moment. Your presence ensures that no one spends their final days alone and reminds families they're supported during this difficult journey.

    Assistance with walking, moving, daily needs

    Help guests maintain comfort and dignity by assisting with daily activities. Whether it's helping someone move from bed to a chair, supporting a short walk around our peaceful grounds, or helping with other personal care needs, your gentle assistance makes a profound difference in a guest's quality of life.

    Meal preparation and light housekeeping

    Create a warm, welcoming environment by helping in the kitchen or keeping our home tidy. Volunteers prepare meals, set up dining areas, do dishes, refresh guest rooms, and handle laundry. These behind-the-scenes tasks ensure our home feels peaceful and well-cared-for, allowing families to focus on spending time with their loved ones.

    Provide compassionate care in many ways

    Every volunteer brings unique gifts to our mission. Some read aloud to guests, others play music, organize activities, help with administrative tasks, greet families, or simply offer a listening ear to those who are grieving. We understand that life is busy. Our volunteers schedule themselves at times that work for them. We also provide training and ongoing support to ensure you feel confident and prepared in your role.

We'd love to talk with you about volunteering at the Toni & Trish House. Whether you're curious about time commitments, training, or what a typical volunteer shift looks like, we're here to answer your questions.

  • No experience is necessary, just a caring heart and willingness to serve. We provide training and ongoing support to ensure you feel confident and prepared in your role. Whether you've worked in healthcare before or this is your first time volunteering, there's a meaningful place for you at the Toni & Trish House.

  • We offer flexible volunteer opportunities to fit your schedule. Some volunteers commit to weekly shifts, while others help occasionally or with special events and projects. Whether you have a few hours a week or can only volunteer once a month, your time makes a difference.

  • Our volunteer orientation covers the basics of hospice support, communication with guests and families, safety protocols, and what to expect in your role. Training is designed to be approachable and supportive, giving you the tools and confidence you need to provide compassionate care.

  • That's completely okay! We have many volunteer opportunities that don't involve direct care, including meal preparation, light housekeeping, administrative support, greeting families, and helping with events. We'll work with you to find a role that matches your comfort level and interests.
